The current focus of Coastal Heritage Alliance in the Pacific Northwest is the establishment of a portal site along the waterfront of Gig Harbor, Washington. The CHA portal site consists of a historic fishermen’s net shed and a rehabilitated historic West Coast salmon purse seine fishing vessel. CHA intends to offer both shore-side
and on-the-water fishing family heritage activities and programs. CHA views its role on the West Coast as that of an interpreter of local commercial fishing culture, dedicated to both educating the general public, as well as helping to sustain that culture by training the next generation.
The Skansie Brothers net shed, located in the Skansie Brothers waterfront park in Gig Harbor, Washington, will become the first portal site of Coastal Heritage Alliance.
Coastal Heritage Alliance uses historic vessel restoration projects as opportunities to pass on knowledge and skills to apprentices who are dedicated to learning the trade.
